Guggenheim Museum Bilbao
Bilbao
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is much more than just a museum: it is the defining symbol of Bilbao’s transformation and an international benchmark in architecture. Designed by Frank Gehry and opened in 1997, its spectacular titanium structure overlooking the estuary reflects the light and the character of the city. Opposite it, the famous Puppy welcomes thousands of visitors every year. Inside, the works of art and Richard Serra’s impressive permanent installation are particularly noteworthy.
The museum’s surroundings also impress with sculptures and open-air spaces that have become an integral part of Bilbao’s landscape, such as the imposing Maman spider, the mist sculptures next to the museum and the striking fire fountains, creating a unique experience where art, architecture and the city merge on the banks of the estuary.
