The Euskal Museoa in Bilbao is a must-visit for anyone wishing to learn about the history, identity and traditions of the Basque people. Located in the Old Town, it occupies part of the former San Andrés College of the Society of Jesus, a building steeped in centuries of history that adds great heritage value to the tour.
One of its most iconic spaces is the cloister, where architecture and history share the limelight with the collection. There stands the Mikeldi Idol, a zoomorphic sandstone sculpture dating from between the 5th and 1st centuries BC, considered one of the museum’s most iconic pieces.
As they wander through the exhibition rooms, visitors discover Basque culture right from its very roots.
