San Pelayo, colourful street groups
Zarautz
The festivals in Zarautz are living testimony to the town’s cultural identity. During the San Pelayo festival, traditionally held on 26 June, the streets are filled with street groups in traditional dress, as well as giant figures and ‘cabezudos’ (big-headed figures), and the pilgrimage to Iñurritza. Nevertheless the festivities start on the 25 June, marked by the opening rocket and the drum parades, held for children in the afternoon and for adults in the evening.
This is the perfect time to experience local life and the traditions that remain very much part of everyday life in Zarautz.
