Salburua Wetlands
Vitoria-Gasteiz
Salburua is a spectacular wetland on the outskirts of Vitoria-Gasteiz, featuring lagoons, wet meadows, poplar groves and a small oak grove. Following years of restoration work that began in 1994, it has become one of the most important wetlands in the Basque Country, providing a safe haven and abundant food for thousands of birds passing through the region on their migratory journeys.
Its footpaths, observation points and the Ataria interpretation centre invite visitors to take their time exploring the biodiversity of the Green Ring: herons, storks, kingfishers and many other birds share this protected environment with amphibians, mammals and deer living in semi-freedom – one of the most characteristic sights of Salburua.
