Playing cards from around the world at the BIBAT Museum
Vitoria-Gasteiz
BIBAT is a museum complex comprising two museums in one (its name, BiBAT, comes from the Basque words “bi” (two) and “bat” (one)).
Of particular note is the Álava Fournier Playing Card Museum, which traces the development of playing cards from the 15th century to the present day, featuring decks from every continent and historical pieces such as the Provençal deck and the first lithographed playing cards in Spain. The visit includes printing techniques in the courtyard of the Palacio de Bendaña and themed rooms devoted to games, literature, music, magic and tarot, making for an interactive and engaging experience for the whole family.
Alongside it, the Archaeology Museum showcases the life and customs of Álava from prehistory to the Modern Age, rounding off this immersive experience of the region’s heritage.
